Abstract

This research aims to conduct a conceptual review of innovation in Islamic religious education as an effort to face the challenges of globalisation. Using the literature study method, this research examines and analyses related literature to explore the concept of innovation in Islamic religious education holistically. The results show that innovations in Islamic religious education include aspects of curriculum and learning materials, learning methods and approaches, utilisation of information and communication technology (ICT), as well as the role of teachers and Islamic education institutions. These innovations contribute to preparing the younger generation to face the challenges of globalisation, through the development of 21st century skills, tolerance and cross-cultural understanding, digital literacy and technology skills, and lifelong learning. This study suggests the need for integrated curriculum development, teacher training, provision of supporting infrastructure, and collaboration between stakeholders to encourage innovation in Islamic religious education
